As of 10:30 am, the Robert F. Morehead Campus is closed due to a gas leak. Out of an abundance of caution, the 7th and 8th grade students were relocated to the 9th Grade Academy prior to the beginning of school.

Students who are bus riders will be transported home as soon as possible. If your child is a car rider, please check them out at the 9th grade office.

Updates will be provided as they become available. The decision regarding the 7th and 8th grade building being open for tomorrow has not been made.

For the third consecutive year, Ms. Debbie Johnson, CEO and President of Caleb’s Climb, Inc., has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to youth mental health by donating $2,000 to Pine Bluff High School in support of Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention initiatives.
Caleb’s Climb, Inc., a nonprofit founded in honor of Ms. Johnson’s late son, has made it its mission to break the silence surrounding mental illness and suicide. Through education, outreach, and direct community engagement, the organization seeks to foster healing and hope for individuals and families affected by mental health struggles.

Each year, the funds donated by Ms. Johnson have helped expand awareness events, such as Mental Health Awareness Week.

As the need for mental health awareness grows nationwide, champions like Ms. Debbie Johnson remind us that compassion, consistency, and community partnership can create lasting change.

Community Spotlight: Kohler Employees Donate Backpacks to Support Pine Bluff High Students

As the new school year unfolds, students at Pine Bluff High School are getting a valuable boost thanks to the generosity of the “Culture and Events” team from the Kohler Company in Sheridan, AR. Mr. Jaquan Garner and Ms. Makeyvia Goodwin represented the company and donated fifty backpacks to the school, aiming to support students in need and make a lasting educational impact.

The backpacks, containing school supplies, such as notebooks, pencils, folders, and paper are intended to help alleviate the burden on families and ensure students start the year equipped and confident.

The donation comes at a crucial time, as many families continue to navigate financial challenges. The PBHS Social Workers expressed deep gratitude for the contribution, noting the direct impact it will have on students' academic preparedness and morale.

Pine Bluff High School Principal, Dr. Ronald Laurent, added “This act of kindness will make a meaningful difference for so many of our students. We’re incredibly thankful to Mr. Garner, Ms. Goodwin, and the Kohler Company for stepping up and supporting education in such a tangible way.”

As the new academic year begins, the generosity of community partners stands as a shining example of community spirit and the positive change that can happen when people come together to invest in the future of young learners.

The Pine Bluff School District is committed to following all state laws, including Act 573 of 2025, which requires each public-school classroom and library to prominently display “a durable poster or framed copy of a historical representation of the Ten Commandments” that is at least 16 by 20 inches in size and easy to read from anywhere in the room.

Thanks to the generosity of a local faith-based community partner, our district has received donated Ten Commandments displays that fully meet the requirements outlined in Act 573. Their support means we can comply with the law without using district funds.

As we implement this new requirement, we will do so in a way that follows both state and federal law and continues to respect the diverse beliefs of our students, staff, and families. Our vision remains the same: to provide a student-centered community that is a safe, supportive, high-quality education for every child in Pine Bluff.

Celebrating Growth Through Partnership!

Thanks to the powerful partnership between Pine Bluff High School and the University of Arkansas, we’re proud to announce that PBHS is now an official Impact Fellowship School—and even prouder to celebrate one of our very own!

Denesha Evans, College & Career Coach in Pine Bluff School District, has been selected to join Cohort 10 of the Impact Program through the University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions. She is now pursuing her Master’s in Educational Leadership, continuing to grow as a leader right here where she serves and inspires students every day.

Through initiatives like the Impact Program and WE CARE (Wellness and Education Commitment to Arkansas Excellence), the University of Arkansas is helping shape the future of Arkansas education—and Denesha is living proof of that impact.

We are beyond proud of her journey and what it represents for our students, our schools, and the future of education in Pine Bluff.
