📚✨ Our district's Librarian PLC recently had the pleasure of attending—and hosting—this quarter’s JobAlike library meeting at the SEARK Coop. Collaboration and creativity were on full display! Led by 34th Elementary librarian Wendy Camarillo, the team engaged in hands-on activities focused on creating and sharing practical programming tools that can be easily implemented back on our campuses. Special thanks to Elizabeth Wall(Southwood Elem.), Connie Jackson (Pine Bluff Jr. High), and Larissa Davis (Pine Bluff Sr. High) for helping facilitate a successful and energizing session—Pine Bluff School District librarians are connected, innovative, and always leading the way for literacy and learning.

We would like to give a huge shout out to our two student teachers, Ms. Boyd (shown 3rd from left in the group picture) and Mr. Dejarnette for their pinning ceremony held on the campus of UAPB. Your dedication and care for our scholars are just a couple of the amazing qualities you possess. We are honored to have you on our campus!

The Southwood PTO proudly presents the "You Got Talent" Talent Show. This event will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. KATV News Anchor Mr. ryan Houston will be our Special Guest M.C. Tickets will be $5.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door. Sign-up in the front office by December 12, 2025. Auditions will be during school hours on December 15, 16, and 17, 2025. For any questions, please call 870-543-4390.

Southwood Elementary held our 2025 Turkey Court this morning, and the scholars of Southwood donated an astounding 3,018 canned goods! To begin the program, some of our student leaders gave the welcome, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and led the Student Affirmation, then the Southwood Singers sang an inspirational song. Ms. Penister, second grade teacher, and Mr. Grant, fifth grade teacher, introduced our Turkey Court Princes and Princesses. Ms. Pat Tate, Executive Director of Neighbor to Neighbor, thanked our scholars for their generous donations of food that will serve our local community. Next, Ms. Brown, our Counselor, announced our Turkey Court King and Queen. Dr. Watson, Principal, gave closing remarks and our students were able to end the celebration with our exclusive "Southwood Tigers" song.

PBSD will observe Thanksgiving beginning Friday, November 21st. Students will return to school on Tuesday, December 2nd.

Southwood's 2025 Turkey Court is in full swing! The competition is heating up between classes and grade levels. Who will be crowned King & Queen for donating the most canned goods overall? There will also be a Prince & Princess for each grade-level's top donators. This is the last weekend to collect canned goods, and a little birdie told us that one of the large retailers in our area has canned goods on sale for 50 cents each. Monday, November 17, 2025 is the last day for students to donate canned goods towards this community project & friendly competition. The Turkey Court Assembly will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.

Community Event: The Pine Bluff Regional Veterans Parade will be held in downtown Pine Bluff this Saturday, November 15th at 10:00 am.

Southwood Elementary School is hosting their Annual Canned Food Drive & Turkey Court. The classroom with the most canned goods will win a pizza party. The top two individual donors will be crowned Turkey Court King and Queen! Students may bring in-date canned or boxed food items to their classroom between November 3rd - 17th. The Turkey Court assembly will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025, where the Turkey Court King and Queen will be crowned.

The Southwood Elementary School PTO is rescheduling the Fall Festival to be held on Friday, November 7, 2025. This event will be held at Southwood Elementary School, beginning at 5:30pm and ending at 7:00pm. Tickets will be $1.00 each; Armbands will be $20 per person; Haunted House $2.00. There will also be games and a concession stand. Join us for the fun! You won't want to miss out!

Greetings, Southwood Family! Due to the rainy weather, we will not have our Trunk or Treat this Friday, October 31st. Instead, we will go from classroom to classroom Trick or Treating. If you signed up to participate, you are welcome to assist with Trick or Treating. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Free Community Event: Taylor Field presents their 4th Annual Halloween Carnival on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. There will be food trucks, games, prizes, music, and a costume contest. Admission is free, but some games may require tickets. Kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Location: Taylor Field @ 1201 E. 16th Avenue in Pine Bluff.
