Community Spotlight: Kohler Employees Donate Backpacks to Support Pine Bluff High Students
As the new school year unfolds, students at Pine Bluff High School are getting a valuable boost thanks to the generosity of the “Culture and Events” team from the Kohler Company in Sheridan, AR. Mr. Jaquan Garner and Ms. Makeyvia Goodwin represented the company and donated fifty backpacks to the school, aiming to support students in need and make a lasting educational impact.
The backpacks, containing school supplies, such as notebooks, pencils, folders, and paper are intended to help alleviate the burden on families and ensure students start the year equipped and confident.
The donation comes at a crucial time, as many families continue to navigate financial challenges. The PBHS Social Workers expressed deep gratitude for the contribution, noting the direct impact it will have on students' academic preparedness and morale.
Pine Bluff High School Principal, Dr. Ronald Laurent, added “This act of kindness will make a meaningful difference for so many of our students. We’re incredibly thankful to Mr. Garner, Ms. Goodwin, and the Kohler Company for stepping up and supporting education in such a tangible way.”
As the new academic year begins, the generosity of community partners stands as a shining example of community spirit and the positive change that can happen when people come together to invest in the future of young learners.

PBSD administrators recently attended a retreat at Cross Heirs in Humphrey, Arkansas. This event provided our leaders the opportunity to reflect, recharge, and prepare for the upcoming school year. Faculty and staff will return to their campuses on July 21st to prepare for the students' return on July 28th.

Congratulations to our teachers who met the criteria and earned Merit Pay. The LEARNS Act created the merit program to elevate the teaching profession and reward excellent teachers. Awards are given to licensed educators who demonstrate outstanding growth in student performance, serve as a mentor to aspiring teachers who participated in yearlong residencies, or are employed in a shortage area.
